You know… you’re beautiful just the way you are without makeup. If you don’t know it, then let me tell you, you are! You don’t need makeup to make yourself beautiful… that comes from what’s inside you, your soul, your spirit, your essence, whatever you want to call it. That’s where true beauty comes from. However, makeup does have a magical way to make us feel better about the way we look, and when that happens, we suddenly become more confident. When you’re more confident, you are able to make things happen because you believe in yourself. When you believe in yourself, anything is possible. Interesting stuff, don’t you think?
I think about this type of thing everyday. I’m all about helping others find their self-confidence and inner beauty. Makeup can help conceal what you’re insecure about, allowing you to put your best features forward and help to bring your self confidence to a new level.
Only you know what you’re truly insecure about. Sometimes it’s hard to share what it is that you don’t like about yourself. I know it’s hard for me… I’m actually very shy and I have to work at getting past my shyness. But once you can talk about your insecurities, you can deal with them and realize that what seems like a big deal to you is actually something that no one else even notices.
OK, so here’s one simple tip that can help boost your confidence: Don’t focus on what you think is a problem area and emphasize other areas that you feel are your best asset(s). Kind of obvious, huh? But so many women forget this and let themselves get down about their appearance. For example, let’s say you’re insecure about your lips because you think they’re too small but you really like your eyes. What you need to do is play up your eyes with something dramatic like a smokey eye and keep your lips out of the spotlight with a nude lipstick or lip gloss. You can use this same concept for anything! Play up your lips with a bright color and keep your eyes neutral if you feel your lips are your best feature. Don’t you see? The possibilities are endless!
Even if you feel indifferent to the way you look, or feel that everything is just fine, studies have shown that women feel more confident when they have a little makeup on. Why do you think that is? I don’t think it’s because we’re trying to be something we’re not, I think it’s because wearing makeup allows us to know that we look good, for whatever reason. Think about your favorite outfit, you love it because you know you look good in it right? Well that’s the same thing that a lipstick, or blush can do! You feel great because you know you look great. It really is as simple as that!
Listen, I’m not trying to get preachy, I just feel so strongly about this and see the magic that even the smallest amount of makeup can do everyday. I want to share with you how easy it is to look and feel your best. Like I said, you are beautiful without makeup, you truly are. I want to help you understand that makeup is a tool to help you. It’s fun, yes, but it can also help you push past the things you don’t like about yourself and be the strong, confident person that I know you are.

While shopping in my local Sephora last week, I stopped by the Too Faced counter to check out what was new for Spring. I was instantly pulled in by these “Mood Swing” lip glosses. Emotionally activated? What the what?! Well that was it, I had to have it!
There are four different shades and flavors (yes, They’re flavored!) of the Too Faced “Mood Swing” glosses, including Berry Pink (grape sweet berries flavor), Original (strawberry flavor), Petal Pink (strawberry flavor), and finally, the one I chose, Pink Shimmer (blueberry flavor). Let me just tell you… it is so yummy! It applies a lovely sparkly, sheer violet and in a matter of moments transforms into the most perfect rosy shimmer. It’s gorgeous!
I’ve tried wearing it alone, with a liner as well as over lipstick and haven’t been disappointed at all. This lip gloss wears beautifully and stays on a really long time without being sticky. It also feels amazing because it contains Shea Butter, Vitamin E, and Jojoba Seed Oil for super slick conditioning and hydration. It leaves a slight stain on your lips, so even when your lip gloss wears off (Which will take a very long time. For reals.) you still have a pretty rose flush to you lips.
Tip Try mixing this gloss with other glosses and see what happens. When I’ve tried it, I’ve been delighted with the results… every time has been different!
As you well know, I’m a self admitted gloss-a-holic, but this gloss is really innovative! It’s different, long wearing and just plain girly fun. It’s fabulous and flirty and truly something that everyone can wear. The Too Faced Mood Swing Emotionally Activated Lip Gloss is so original, playful and pretty, I highly recommend it!
I know, I know… you’re already so tired at the end of the day, you barely have the energy to wash your face so is it really necessary to use an eye makeup remover too? It’s an extra step and you’d rather just not worry about it, right? (And maybe get a few extra minutes of sleep, right?!) Well my darlings, I’m sorry to tell you, that yes, you really do need to use an eye makeup remover.
Here’s why: Not doing so could cause eye irritation, puffiness, lash damage (including breakage!), itchiness, eye infections and can eventually lead to fine lines and wrinkles. Plus, it’s just gross, people! Not to mention it can also ruin your pillow case.
So, what eye makeup remover is best for you? Well, that’s up to you. I recommend using a gentle, oil free eye makeup remover. A lot of people say that baby oil is a great way to take off stubborn eye makeup, but I say no! Any kind of oil, especially baby oil, is not going to rinse off with water and will leave a residue around your eyes causing your eye makeup to smear and smudge and even cause irritation to your eyes. There are many, many oil-free makeup removers out there that won’t leave a residue or sting your eyes. If you’re using one that does burn, or sting your eyes, stop using it and try something new.
Tip If you just can’t handle taking the extra step to use an eye makeup remover and wash your face at night, then you might consider trying a face wipe, or facial cleansing sheet that’s safe to use on your eyes. It’s one easy step… wipe and you’re done!
So please, heed my advice and go for the eye makeup remover. You’ll be much happier, and so will your eyes! No more breaking eye lashes, or dealing with swollen, puffy eyes for you! Even if you don’t see the effects now… not using an eye makeup remover will catch up with you sooner or later. Trust me.
I’ve seen it so many times working behind the counter… beauty blunders done by smart, intelligent, beautiful women! I look at them and wonder what they’re thinking. Do they not know how they look when they look in the mirror? Will no one tell them the truth??
Well, the truth is it’s not always easy to tell someone that they’re doing something wrong. I don’t enjoy it either, but I always think it’s better to be honest and tell the truth (The truth shall set you free!) no matter what. So I’m going to do the dirty work for you and let everyone know the most frequent 3 beauty blunders I see.
I see this one almost every day! Whether it’s too light or too dark, if it doesn’t match your natural skin color then it’s just wrong! When you put your foundation on, it should still look like YOU… just a more evened out you. Too light will wash you out and too dark will leave a line and/or look dirty. You also want to make sure your face matches your neck and decolletage (the base of your throat and chest area). It looks silly if your face is white and your chest is tan, or the other way around. When purchasing your foundation, go with the color that disappears. Be careful with liquid formulas because they can tend to dry down a shade darker than when they first go on. You can always ask for a sample to wear for a day or two to see how you like it. You can do this, ladies! I know you can!
I’ve noticed this on so many women that l think are attempting to be natural and wear some sort of powder foundation. Their foundation tends to be cakey looking and will sometimes even start to separate on the skin. I get so distracted by it, I have a hard time focusing on anything else. I’ve also seen a perfectly gorgeous foundation finish completely obliterated by powder. Don’t get me wrong, powder definitely has it’s place in the beauty world, but I find that nowadays you just don’t need a lot of it. Most foundations will wear beautifully with out one. I’m not saying to never wear powder, I’m saying to use it sparingly. Lightly dust it, don’t pack it on. Please!
I know, I know… you don’t like to wear a lot of color. It makes you feel uncomfortable and you like to stay as natural as possible. OK, I get it, but sometimes when you wear too many nudes and/or neutrals, you wind up looking more washed out. Isn’t the intent to make yourself look better when wearing makeup? Well, don’t be afraid of a little color! Pink is a very natural color and can be very soft. Sometimes you need to add a little life and color to your “natural” makeup look. Otherwise, you wind up looking very UN-natural.
Please know that I’m not trying to be negative, I’m only trying to help. I just want everyone to look and feel their best! I hope it helps to shed some light if you were questioning something, and that it gives you courage to pass along some kind words of advice if you know someone that needs some loving words like, “Honey, what’s going on with your foundation?” I know it’s not pleasant, but wouldn’t you want someone to tell you?! I know I would!
Here’s one more hot makeup trend that you’ll be seeing a lot of this Spring and Summer: Bright lips matched with bright nails! That’s right, no more grayish beige nails, it’s all about the wow factor of hot, vivacious color. It looks especially amazing when paired with a more neutral outfit… the color really pops and becomes more of an accessory. How fun is that?! Talk about making a statement!
The hottest shades of the moment are bright reds, corals and pinks. I know these colors can seem a bit intimidating, but trust me, anyone can wear this look. The key is to choose a color that compliments your skin tone, and go more sheer on the lips. Here are a few tips to help you get the look of the moment:
This is really important so you don’t look too trampy and over done. All you need is some mascara and maybe a very light, shimmery eyeshadow. That’s it. For reals.
For the ultimate chic look, match your cheek color to your lips and nails. Just make sure you choose a blush that is more sheer so you won’t look like a clown.
Whenever you’re wearing a bright lip color, it’s important to make sure your lips are nice and smooth. Dry, scaly lips are so very unattractive and wearing a strong lip color will only call attention to the dry, dead skin on your lips.
Tip If wearing a matching cheek color is too “matchy, matchy” for you, then you could also use a bronzer as your cheek color. It’s nice and neutral and won’t clash with the intensity of your lips and nails.
Okay you hot mama’s! There’s one more hot trend to be on the look out for for Spring 2011. This look is so youthful and fun and flirty, I love it! I know you will too!
