Ladies, we’ve all been there. Someone has broken your heart. Someone has gotten hurt or sick. Maybe you just watched a real tear jerker of a movie and bawled your eyes out. (For me it’s The English Patient) No matter what the cause, it’s a fact that any extended amount of crying will give you those dreaded puffy eyes.
Well I can’t mend broken hearts or heal the sick, but I can help you reduce the puffiness you’ll get after a good, long crying session. Luckily for us all, these tips on stopping puffy eyes from crying are easy, inexpensive, and are sure to help reduce the puffiness you get.
Brew yourself a nice, big cup of tea with at least 2 tea bags. Take the tea bags out after they’ve steeped long enough and prepare your tea as usual. Now take a sip… Ah, much better. Now to the real work: Remove the excess liquid from the tea bags and set them in your freezer or refrigerator until they are nice and cool (not frozen!). Then put the chilled tea bags on your eyes for about 20 minutes. If the tea bags get warm before the time is up, put them back in the fridge for a bit until they’re cool again.
Grab yourself a cucumber and cut 4 slices. Just like with the tea bags above, you’re going to want to chill them in your fridge or freezer. When they’re ready, take 2 slices of cucumber and place them on your eyes for about 20 minutes. If the slices get warm before the time is up, swap them out with the other 2 slices in the fridge to keep some cukes on your eyes at all times.
Can’t stand tea? Don’t have any cucumbers handy? Take some cotton balls, or better yet, some cotton rounds, and set an ice cube on top of them until the cotton has absorbed enough water to be cold. Then — you guessed it — put the cotton rounds on your eyes for about 20 minutes. (Notice a trend with the time yet?)
Another tried and true method of reducing puffy eyes is to take a couple of spoons and put them in the refrigerator for a while before placing the cooled spoons on your eyes for the standard 20 minutes. Be careful not to let the spoons stay in there too long, though, because otherwise the metal will feel uncomfortable on your skin. The nice thing about using chilled spoons is that a good, thick spoon will hold the cold for most, if not all of the 20 minutes.
Tip After cooling off your eyes with the tips above, get some sleep! When you sleep, your body goes into repair mode and fixes itself if/when it can. And for something as simple as puffy eyes from crying, you’ll be doing yourself a favor by getting forty winks and letting Mother Nature do her work.
Oh, a quick note for those of you who are saying “But Kimberly, what about hemorrhoid cream? I always heard that was good to reduce puffy eyes.” Well I’m no doctor, but two things come to mind when someone brings up putting hemorrhoid cream on your eyes:
No, no, no… for me, personally, I think we put enough chemicals on our faces every day with the makeup we wear and the skin care products that help keep us looking young. Anyhow, the puffy eye reduction methods I noted earlier are all great alternatives to anything you might buy off the shelf.
So don’t let the whole world see that you’ve been crying the next morning. Just follow the tips on reducing puffy eyes after crying that I’ve listed above, and be sure to get some sleep! If you do, you’re going to be back to your beautiful self in the morning.
