Believe it or not, the holidays are upon us once again. ‘Tis the season for giving and celebrating with family and friends and for the awkward holiday office party. Since many office parties are after-hours you want to look good, but then again, you don’t want to be known as the office hootchie after the holidays, do you?
So what’s appropriate and what’s not? Mixing your off-hours style and your on-the-job look is a tricky thing, but it can be done. First of all, you need to remember (at all times!) that these are people you work with, so you need to remain in a professional state of mind. By all means, relax, have a drink (not too much now) and have fun, but just don’t go crazy. Save that for the after party when the boss is gone.
Keeping that professional state in mind, you’ll want to do the same for your makeup. It should be a bit more fun then every day, but not too flashy and over the top. Here’s what I suggest:
You’ll want to keep the eyes on the simple side, with a hint of glam. A soft, shimmery eye shadow (like LORAC’s Starry-Eyed Eyeshadow Trio in Superstar) with either a black or brown eyeliner should do the trick. If you want a pop of color (in the shadow and/or the liner), use either a plum, navy, or dark green to keep things on the neutral side. To finish, curl your lashes and apply two coats of mascara.
I think a lovely pink or peach cheek color with a shimmer would be perfect. Not too light, and not too dark, just really fresh and glowy. For an idea of what I’m talking about, check out NARS Blush in Orgasm. I love it, and I think you will, too.
Tip For some extra holiday sparkle, add a bit of highlighter makeup to your cheeks, brow bone, and collar bone. It’ll give you a lovely, radiant, shimmery glow. My favorite is MAC’s Irridescent Loose Powder in Silver Dusk.
We all know how I feel about lip gloss, and I think this is the perfect time to wear it! (OK, I think anytime is the perfect time!) Any color will work… I feel if you’re going to play up one feature in this look, it should be the lips. Don’t you think a great red lipstick would be fabulous and festive?! If not, just go with what you’re comfortable with. If you’re looking for ideas, check out the Laura Mercier Mini Lip Glace Set. It has wonderful colors that you can wear alone, or mix together to create your own, original shade.
That’s the deal, kids! I guess you could call it my holiday professional look? Or festive work? I don’t know… the point is to look amazing and not inappropriate. Be classy, elegant and sophisticated. Be the best you you can be, today and everyday.
