Brown eyeshadow… we all have it, whether it’s your favorite fail-safe color or the free gift with purchase (fave!) color that’s now residing in the makeup graveyard drawer. We’ve all been wearing brown eyeshadow for so long, I thought I’d give you some ideas to shake things up a bit and give this old-timer a new life!

  1. Mix It Up

The first and most obvious way to wear brown eyeshadow is, well, as an eyeshadow! However, the challenge to change it up a bit is to look at it in a new light. Wear your brown with a plum, navy, or green eyeliner. Better yet, mix it together with different eyeshadow colors and see what happens. Maybe you’ll find a new favorite color!

  2. Line Up

Another cool thing to do is to use your brown eyeshadow as your eyeliner. You can either do it old school as a cake liner (wet a eye lining brush with water and mix it in the eyeshadow for a liquid liner look), or use it dry as a softer alternative to a pencil. You can also smudge the eyeshadow on top of your eyeliner pencil for a soft, smokey eye.

  3. Take a Brow

The last suggestion I have for you is to use your brown eyeshadow as a brow color to help fill in and define your eyebrows. Pencils can look harsh and can be difficult to blend, and an eyeshadow will look soft and natural. You’ll also find you have much more control using the eyeshadow vs. a pencil.

To apply, use a small, stiff brush, a Q-tip, or the eyeshadow applicator itself. Start with smaller strokes and blend the brown eyeshadow into your brows, building the color as you go. (Important: It’s much easier to start off lighter and go darker.) Everyone can wear brown on their brows; how much and how dark you go will depend on your hair color.

TipMixing in a little brown eyeshadow is a great way to tone down and neutralize a color that’s too bright or strong.

So what do you think? I hope this has inspired you to use your plain old brown eyeshadow in a new way and look at it with fresh eyes. :)
